Telephone - Commissioned Collaborative Work

October 26 - January 19
Akerk Groningen, NL

"Telephone" is a collaborative art project created by Martine Stig, Joanna Zylinska, and Mark Amerika, commissioned by Noorderlicht and funded by the Mondriaan Foundation in Holland. The artists communicated solely through AI-generated images, inspired by the children's game Telephone. Each artist interpreted an AI-generated image, created a prompt for the next image, and documented their thought process. This cycle continued, exploring themes of perception, AI, and post-photography.

The project employed a "Slow AI" methodology, emphasizing thoughtful engagement with AI in the creative process. The final output is a video art piece showcasing the AI-generated images and the artists' reflections by way of streaming text in the style of Chinese bullets

"Telephone" investigates creativity and authorship across the human-nonhuman spectrum, making AI image generation processes more transparent and examining inherent biases in AI models and human perception. The work premiered at the "Pixel Perceptions" exhibition as part of the Noorderlicht Festival.)
